ARE VAPE SHOPS SYSTEM CRITICAL?

Unfortunately, positive news from politics on the subject of Corona is scarce. Far too often we have had to report on advertising bans, misinformed politicians and fake news. Today, however, we have positive news for you: the importance of the TPD vape seems to be slowly arriving in politics - at least in Italy. But first something about the risk of infection with Corona for smokers and vapers:

Corona: The risk for smokers and vapers

In one of our blog posts, we reported on rumors that vaping would promote the spread of Covid-19. However, this has still not been proven and - according to the current state of knowledge - can be dismissed as a false report.

However, it is a proven fact that the risk of contracting Covid-19 and a severe course of the disease is significantly higher in smokers than in non-smokers. But why is that? The corona pathogen specifically attacks the cells of the lungs, penetrates them and multiplies there. However, smoking cigarettes damages the lungs in many ways:

The lung tissue is attacked and partially destroyed

Inflammatory reactions can be caused

The self-cleaning mechanism of the airways is impaired by destroying cilia

Air sacs in the lungs are destroyed

There are currently no specific studies on the effect of smoking on infection with Corona and the course of Covid-19. Nevertheless, the first figures (mainly from China) show that the proportion of smokers in the group of corona patients with a severe course of the disease was significantly higher than in the group of patients with a milder course of the disease.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Kotz from Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf tweeted on the subject:

Shutdown in Italy - and what about the steamers?

In the course of the ever-spreading corona pandemic, the Italian government ordered a so-called shutdown, i.e. the closure of all non-system-critical shops and production facilities. And that included vape manufacturer. The only shops that were still allowed to open in Italy were pharmacies, supermarkets, newsagents and tobacconists.

.. Wait a minute, tobacconists are considered system-critical, but vape shops are not? That can not be right.

ENTER DR. RICCARDO POLOSA

In the course of the shutdown, Dr. Riccardo Polosa, an Italian doctor and director of the Center of Excellence for the acceleration of Harm Reduction (CoEHAR), and gave an interview in the US magazine FILTER. dr Polosa has been doing research on e-cigarettes for several years and saw the shutdown as a danger for vapers in Italy:

"Hundreds of thousands of vapers would have been at risk of going back to smoking." - with this sentence Dr. Polosa to the Italian National Association for Electronic Smoking (ANAFE), which in turn contacted the Italian government directly.

On March 13th, the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the health authority responded: Like tobacconists, vape shops in the country may remain open to ensure the supply of vapers.

In his interview, Dr. Incidentally, Polosa also knows that there is no evidence of a higher risk of infection with corona among vapers.
